The 210 foot Coast Guard Cutter Dependable returned from a fifty nine day patrol in the Atlantic on March 2, 2012. While moored in their homeport in Cape May, New Jersey, the small sailing ship had their vents vacuumed and sanitized by Advanced Furnace & Air Duct Cleaning company. Advanced Air Duct Cleaners are headquartered in Bayville, New Jersey and have several locations throughout the state.
The ship, like other Coast Guard boats, is its own “community”. The crew is at sea on average 185 days a year and the boat serves as their home. Living in such close quarters as this, it is extremely important to maintain a healthy environment. A professional duct cleaning service not only removes odors, dirt and debris but also contaminants such as mold, bacteria, allergens, dust mites, and viruses. This service was the first of three appointments that are scheduled for the cutter. Since the Dependable is only docked for a small amount of time, the job was broken into three different phases to best accommodate the sailors. At this time the cleaners focused on the areas that the Guardsmen spend the most time; all of the officer’s state rooms were cleaned, the berthing areas, the mess hall, and the medical unit. When the ship is back in port the remainder of the boat’s air ducts will be cleaned in two more phases over the approaching summer months.
Advanced has a long term relationship with the United States Coast Guard. In 2002 the agency contracted the company to clean the Guard Boat Maintenance Building at Sandy Hook Coast Guard Station. Also, in 2005 USCG cutter Sailfish moored in Highlands, New Jersey.
