what is encapsulation?
Encapsulation is a process that coats the inside of duct work to It locks down fibers, mold, and other pollutants. This prevents them from becoming airborne and negatively impacting the circulation throughout your building. The coating used in this process is flexible to expand and contract with your duct work. Prior to encapsulation, the duct work must be cleaned to remove loose contaminants to ensure proper adhesion.
what product is used to encapsulate?
Advanced uses a water based protective coating formulated with an EPA registered preservative that prevents mold growth, mildew, and fungus on the surface of the coating. It creates a durable, flexible film over sheet metal, fiberglass, and fiberboard ductwork. The product protects against future mold growth o treats pre existing growth as well. The product even includes a 10-year warranty.
Common reasons you may need duct encapsulation are:
- If your fiberglass (internally lined) or fiberboard duct is breaking down
- If your fiberglass (internally lined) or fiberboard duct has mold growth
- If your sheet metal duct is oxidizing
- Where sub lines were originally attached or at the joints where they were attached are not edge sealed, fiberglass is exposed and will become airborne
What are the overall benefits of encapsulation?
Improves lifespan of duct
Better indoor air quality especially for post-operative patients, and individuals with immune deficiencies, asthma, allergies and other respiratory issues
Conserves Conserves energy as it helps with static pressure loss
Protects your home from fiberglass particles circulating
Seals preexisting mold and bacteria growth as well as prevents future growth

encapsulation?
Advanced Air Duct Cleaning has answers
Fiberglass is composed of small glass fibers and glass is made from sand, which is a basic component of silica. Classified as a human lung carcinogen, Silica has also been linked to other lung diseases and greatly exasperating other respiratory issues such as asthma and emphysema. According to the American Lung Association, “over time, exposure to silica particles causes scarring in the lungs, which can harm your ability to breathe.”
Roughly 50% of duct work is internally lined with fiberglass (Internally lined or fiberboard). Over time, the fiberglass particulates from the internally lined ductwork are loosed or break down due to air abrasion or unlike ours, an overly abrasive air duct cleaning. Under these conditions, fiberglass fibers circulate throughout your duct work and ultimately into your home.
The constant moisture passing through from your air conditioning unit will cause sheet metal duct work will oxidize over time. The oxidation will cause the sheet metal to break down creating a white powder pollutant. This pollutant is then circulated throughout your home exasperating respiratory conditions and allergies.
why choose advanced air duct cleaning for encapsulation?
Advanced Air Duct is certified through the manufacture of the product for encapsulation as an applicator. Training and certification provide our technicians with the proper knowledge for application and procedures to ensure the encapsulation is performed correctly.
