At times we come across ductwork that is internally insulated. Over the past several years, there has been an increase in the number of duct cleaning companies out there. It is very important that the cleaning professional is familiar with NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaning Association) guidelines. Although fiber board and duct board products are designed to withstand cleaning, only an experienced duct cleaner should be trusted. They are made of fiberglass and small particles become airborne during the cleaning process. It is important that equipment with 12,000 to 15,000 CFM’s of power is used so those particles are removed.

Great care must be taken so the surface of the insulation is not damaged. The proper equipment must be used to dislodge the dirt and debris that adheres to the surface. Once dislodged, the dirt and debris also becomes airborne and should be removed by adequate vacuuming equipment.
