One of the most common questions we are asked is can we clean flex ducts. Flex duct has been used for a little over 40 years in duct systems. In the beginning, cleaning flex duct without damaging it was no easy task. Numerous companies manufactured tools to complete this task. They have finally in the last 15 years created equipment that thoroughly cleans and doesn’t damage flex duct.

Advanced Furnace & Air Duct Cleaning has worked with a couple manufacturers to develop what we call our patented Super Soft Whip Lead. This lead does a thorough job and gently cleans your flex ducts without the risk of damage. This lead, in conjunction with a tapered skipper ball (a tool used that disperses air evenly with six or twelve jets), will achieve total removal of any debris including dust, pollen, rodent feces, sheetrock dust, light mold, and the dreaded children’s baseball card.

Not everyone can clean flex ductwork. It takes the proper equipment and trained technicians to know how much pressure and velocity should be used. This depends on many variables; such as size, construction, age, and the actual installation.

The most delicate parts of flex duct are on the radius that is found during a tight installation. At these parts the Mylar lining is under a lot of tension and stress. Using the improper tools and pressure can cause this Mylar to split, fracture, and even tear.
